As you might have read or heard or seen on Television is that the Covid pandemic situation is quite worsening in Nepal. A month back it was predicted by the government officials that daily mortality rate would go up by 150 per day. Now the daily death number has increased over 160 since a few days. Infected numbers are reaching near about 10.000 daily. There are no beds available in any of the hospitals in the Kathmandu valley. The worst scenario is that the infected patients are dying due to a scarcity of oxygen supplies.
All the oxygen plants are being controlled by the government and army. Regular supply is not possible. We have to carry our own oxygen cylinders to fill from the plant. They fill up only a limited number. This has hindered in our service.
Till today we have admitted two Covid infected women and one needed surgery to deliver the baby. Both mother and child were fine and discharged after admitting in IC beds for few days. It’s not easy to solve the oxygen problem.
The Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu has its own huge oxygen plants, but to provide continuous high pressure oxygen to about 400 Covid patients in the hospital is very difficult and the government cannot help. Such is the case in almost all the hospitals in the Kathmandu valley. People are dying not only due to infection but also due to lack of oxygen supply.
We believe that Goddess Navadurga will protect us.
At the moment the condition is getting worse and death rate is increasing. And here in Sankhuwasabha district the isolation department in the hospital is packed with Covid Positive cases and some of the staff is also positive. Luckily severe cases are not here now, but only patients with moderate symptoms. But at this rate it will come and then we will be helpless.
Today we had a meeting with the District Head, Police, Army and Mayor as all beds are packed with covid patients and we are planning to extend more beds. We have 45 covid beds now. Planning for 50 more beds.
All the medical colleges and hospitals are packed. There is a shortage of oxygen more and more. Some hospitals are declaring that they cannot admit or operate patients due to shortage of oxygen and back up. There is even a shortage of test kits and PCR materials. And the political instability and carelessness of the government and its ministers at this moment is very shameful.
We are praying things to come under control and get better.
